Discover the different industries that could benefit from staff undertaking LGV training courses in Yorkshire, from refuse management to corporate offices.

There are many reasons to pursue LGV training courses in Yorkshire, as it can be very useful for people in several industries to have a large goods vehicles licence.

  • Paramedics

Ambulance drivers, unsurprisingly, need to have a special licence to drive the motor, as they are much bigger than normal vehicles.

They need to undertake the LGV C1 – Ambulance / Motorhome training, which provides them with 12 hours of driving experience and a test. This will allow them to operate a vehicle of up to 7.5 tonnes.

  • Refuse collector

A refuse collector, who drives waste management vehicles, also needs a LGV licence. As their motor is much larger, they will require LGV C – Rigid Goods Vehicle (Class 2) Cat C training, which teaches them how to operate a rigid vehicle of over 3,500kg.

  • Freight driver

A freight driver, who delivers goods to business, warehouses, and other commercial units, will definitely need a LGV licence, as they will need to drive large motors that can fit in enough stock.

Due to the size of the lorries they will be driving, they will need a Category C+E (Class 1) licence, and if they have to operate articulated vehicles, they will require specific training to cover this.

This will ensure they have the skills and knowledge to operate these huge vehicles safely.

  • Construction workers

Construction workers who do not have to operate tippers, lorry-mounted cranes, or concrete mixers might just need a standard driving licence to use on-site vehicles.

However, those who are responsible for machinery over 3,500kg on public roads will require a particular LGV licence for this.

Depending on what vehicle they will tend to use, they may need Category C licence or a C1.

  • Members of staff

Some companies might also insist certain members of staff to have a LGV licence, if there is a need for minibus hire once in a while. This could be to make corporate away days easier, as well as driving to different sites, or transporting clients.

In this case, a PCV D1 Minibus licence would suffice, providing more flexibility within the team, in case they need to hire a larger vehicle one day.
