Back to All NewsHGV Drivers: 3 Top Tips For Health And Wellbeing
As with any job, it’s vital for HGV drivers to prioritise their health and wellbeing – but it’s all too easy to forget about this when you’re on the road and sitting in your cab for hours at a time.
Driving for prolonged periods is one of the biggest challenges that these drivers cite as facing when it comes to fitness and health, so what can you do to address this and make sure that you’re not sacrificing your sanity for the sake of your job?
Here are some top tips from the Viamaster team! And, of course, if you want to find out more about our HGV training courses in Leeds, give us a call today!
1. Look out for truckstops with gyms
If you’re on a long-haul journey and want to fit in some exercise where you can, keep a list of truckstops with gyms along your route and plan your stops accordingly. There are a growing number of these sites around the UK, helping you to stay fit and healthy even when you’re far from home.
2. Meal prep
One of the hardest aspects of being on the road is not having access to healthy home-cooked food. It’s all too easy to just reach for the unhealthy snacks which, of course, is fine from time to time but make a habit of it and your body will soon start to feel the effects.
Preparation is key and you can really help your health by prepping tasty dishes before you leave. You could even take portable cooking appliances with you and a mini fridge so you can enjoy delicious healthy food, while saving money at the same time.
3. Stay hydrated
Make sure that you have easy access to water while you’re behind the wheel, as being dehydrated can have a significant impact on your mood and energy. This will also help you stay alert and focused as you drive.
