About Yard Shunter & Banksman Training
Our Banksmen and Shunter courses provide the skills and knowledge your employees will need in order to be compliant with the Workplace Regulations 1992 & HSE Guidance and Approved Codes of Practice. Our team of experienced and skilled trainers will work with our trainees to equip them with the necessary skills.
We have worked with specialists and experts in the field to curate an informative and accredited course for banksmen and shunters.
Our RTITB Accredited Yard Shunter/Banksman Course is designed to ensure compliance with Workplace Regulations 1992 and HSE Guidance, as well as Approved Codes of Practice pertaining to vehicle control and operations in the workplace.
This comprehensive training equips employees with the necessary skills and understanding of the roles of both the vehicle driver and the banksman in reversing operations, particularly in high-risk scenarios such as multi-vehicle environments, restricted access premises, or situations where reversing operations pose risks to employees or the general public. By successfully completing this course, participants will gain the knowledge and expertise needed to contribute to a safer working environment and mitigate potential hazards associated with vehicle manoeuvring and reversing operations.
Throughout the course, participants will cover essential topics such as vehicle familiarisation, effective use of mirrors, LGV/HGV vehicle controls and systems, and practical skills in vehicle manoeuvring. This includes forward steering, reversing skills, manoeuvring around obstacles, and safely reversing up to loading bays and alongside other vehicles.
We provide additional instruction on trailer braking systems, trailer uncoupling and recoupling procedures, and trailer manoeuvring techniques for articulated shunter drivers.
A key focus of the course is the management and control of reversing vehicles. Participants will learn about the importance of utilising Banksmen and the legal consequences associated with improper reversing procedures. By the end of the Yard Shunter Driver Course, participants will have gained the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to operate vehicles and trailers safely within the workplace, promoting a secure and efficient working environment.
